Tokenised deposits are emerging as an important part of the debate on the future of money and financial innovation. This event will bring together representatives from the banking sector, the stablecoin industry and public authorities to explore their potential role in an increasingly digital financial system.

The discussion will examine what tokenised deposits are, what they are not, how they differ from other forms of digital money and what use cases they may enable. Speakers will also consider whether the EU’s existing regulatory framework is sufficiently equipped to accommodate their development or whether further changes may be needed.

A key question will be whether tokenised deposits and stablecoins should be seen as competing models or as complementary instruments serving different functions within the monetary system. More broadly, the event will assess what their development could mean for payments, settlement, bank funding, monetary sovereignty and the evolving architecture of money in Europe.
